For nearly 30 years, HCEB has created pathways home for East Bay neighbors who have nowhere else to turn — people with intelectual developmental disabilities, challenging mental illness, and special needs whom our community cannot afford to leave behind. This event is a chance to change more lives.
MEET OUR HONOREES OF THE DAY
Liz Varela
Liz has served Building Futures since 1994 and was named its executive director in 2007. Under her oversight, the agency has become an Alameda County leader in helping individuals and families become safely and sustainably housed after homelessness and domestic violence. Under Liz’s leadership, Building Futures has grown into agency with over 100 staff. Offering services to homeless individuals and families across the continuum, from street outreach to interim housing to permanent housing, and Liz is adept navigating the constantly changing programmatic, financial, and political environment.

Brianne Steinhauser
Principal of Gunkel Architecture, with nearly 25 years of experience in architecture and affordable-housing development, Brianne brings thoughtful design and a deep commitment to creating inclusive communities where people can thrive.
Join us as we celebrate Brianne’s leadership and contributions to housing and community development.Dr. Rebecca Nanyonjo is the Executive Director of the Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB), directing services for over 30,000 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A veteran public health executive, her previous leadership includes Merced County Public Health Director, Stanislaus County Health Services Chief Deputy Director, and Princess Cruises Public Health Director. She holds a Doctorate in Public Health from Loma Linda University.Meet our MC of the day
